St. Joseph Feast is a tradition featured Island wide that began in the late 1800's on the grounds of St. Joseph Church, 1294 Makawao Avenue, Makawao, Maui, HI 96768. It's a fun filled weekend that features authentic food such as Malassadas, Portuguese Soup, BBQ Teriyaki, Sr. Georgina's Pork Adobo, Hamburgers, Shave Ice, Cotton Candy, Pizza, Mocha Freeze and other delicious food. It will also offer games, crafters, a country store, entertainment, valuable goods auction, a livestock auction and much more! Admission is free. This major fundraiser will assist with the reconfiguring and expanding St. Joseph School Early Learning Center. It also supports community programs such as feeding the homeless, distributing food boxes to those in need, giving financial assistance to those in crisis, as well as raise funds for the new multi purpose center to replace the dilapidated gym that is used for school and community functions. alternativehawaii.com. On Friday, May 7, 2010, anyone interested in acquiring rare
Hawaiian varieties of taro will have an opportunity to do so at
the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens. Sale starts at 12:00 noon and
ends at 5:00 pm. Over 60 varieties of taro from family groups of
Mana, Piko, Kai, Lauloa, 'Ele'ele, 'Ula'ula and Manini available.
The Gardens won't have these varieties available for sale until
next year, so get them now! Grow your own food to save money,
and have your taro questions answered. Discounted prices
available.

In Honokowai Valley, restoration of an ancient farming archeological site has been ongoing, and, on Saturdays, dedicated volunteers venture deep into the realms of Honokowai for five hours of restorative work. alternativehawaii.com. Efforts include preserving cultural resources, stabilizing archeological sites and reforest the area using native Hawaiian plants. Volunteers meet at Puukoli'i Train Station in Lahaina, every Saturday, at 9 a.m. The day usually ends at 4 p.m. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen and insect repellent; wear a hat, protective clothing, and bring gloves if available; Be prepared to get dirty and enjoy the camaraderie. alternativehawaii.com. MAY DAY IS LEI DAY IN HAWAII

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii. This wonderful tradition was founded by artist and poet Don Blanding
in 1923. Of all ancient Hawaiian art forms, traditional lei making is one of the most beautiful
still being practiced island-wide today. Hardly a lovelier tradition exists anywhere in the world
than placing a flower garland around the neck of someone special. Lei have one quality that is
unsurpassed: they feel just as good to give as they do to receive as they represent and encompass
the true spirit of Aloha!

SUNSET CLIFF-DIVING
Date: Every evening
Place: Sheraton Maui, Kaanapali (West Maui)
The Sheraton Maui rests atop the famed black rock, Puu Kekaa, site of many Hawaiian legends. A
torchlighting and cliff diving ceremony is enacted each evening right before sunset. The public
can watch a young man in ancient Hawaiian garb light torches as he runs to the rock's summit.
Perched at the top, he dives off the cliff into the calm waters surrounding the landmark. Call:

WHALERS VILLAGE ENTERTAINMENT

Enjoy free entertainment and activities at Whalers Village Center Stage. On Mondays, Wednesdays
and Saturdays, watch Polynesian dances from 6:30 to 7 pm then Tahitian dances from 7:30 to 8 pm.
Take a lei-making class on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 2 pm or take a hula lesson from 3
to 4 pm on Thursdays. Sundays feature Sunset Jazz from 6 to 9 pm. Whalers Village is open from
