A 6-week “Beginning Lauhala Weaving” class on Thursdays this summer at the Bailey House Museum. Learn to prepare hala leaves and weave your own lauhala project with kumu Pohaku Kaho`ohanohano, who has been teaching weaving for 17 years. alternativehawaii.com. Flatbread Pizza in Paia will host a benefit night for Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project. In Honokowai Valley, restoration of an ancient farming archeological site has been ongoing, and, on Saturdays, dedicated volunteers venture deep into the realms of Honokowai for five hours of restorative work. alternativehawaii.com. Efforts include preserving cultural resources, stabilizing archeological sites and reforest the area using native Hawaiian plants. Volunteers meet at Puukoli'i Train Station in Lahaina, every Saturday, at 9 a.m. The day usually ends at 4 p.m. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen and insect repellent; wear a hat, protective clothing, and bring gloves if available; Be prepared to get dirty and enjoy the camaraderie. alternativehawaii.com. HUI NOEAU VISUAL ARTS CENTER

STOP BY THE LAHAINA VISITOR CENTER

Place: Historic Old Lahaina Courthouse at Banyan Tree Park, Lahaina
Staffed by community volunteers and managed by LahainaTown Action Committee, the Visitor Center's
purpose is to provide free, friendly and unbiased information to visitors and others seeking

HALEAKALA NATIONAL PARK
Date: Daily
Ongoing Ranger / Naturalist programs include guided walks, hikes, as well as programs on geology
and natural and cultural history and 15 to 20 minute presentations. In the Summit area, special
evening star watching programs are conducted periodically. Occasionally special all day and

ASTRONOMY TOUR OF THE STARS

A brilliant tour of the stars is given nightly on the roof for one hour. Astronomy-quality telescopes

SUNSET CLIFF-DIVING
Date: Every evening
Place: Sheraton Maui, Kaanapali (West Maui)
The Sheraton Maui rests atop the famed black rock, Puu Kekaa, site of many Hawaiian legends.
A torchlighting and cliff diving ceremony is enacted each evening right before sunset. The public
can watch a young man in ancient Hawaiian garb light torches as he runs to the rock's summit.
Perched at the top, he dives off the cliff into the calm waters surrounding the landmark. Call:

WHALERS VILLAGE ENTERTAINMENT

Enjoy free entertainment and activities at Whalers Village Center Stage. On Mondays, Wednesdays
and Saturdays, watch Polynesian dances from 6:30 to 7 pm then Tahitian dances from 7:30 to 8
