	THE BROTHERS CAZIMERO Date: Saturday, June 2nd, 8 pm, 2012 Place: Kahilu Theatre Foundation, Kamuela, Big Island Contact: Eric Kwan (Box Office Manager), 808-885-6868, eric@kahilutheatre.org Back by popular demand, these consummate performers in song and dance will once again grace the stage of Kahilu Theatre. Masters of their craft – their musicianship and stylish vocals blend to produce a style that is now part of the fabric of Hawaiian history. Their contribution to Hawaiian music and dance has continued to show how important these two components are to the past, present and future of Hawai’i. The components of the past play an enormous role in all aspects of The Brothers Cazimero performances. Ticket prices range from $25-$65.
	4TH ANNUAL 2012 VOLCANO POTTERY SALE - VOLCANO ART CENTER Date: Saturday and Sunday, June 9th & 10th, from 10am - 4 pm, 2012 Place: Volcano Art Center's Hale Hoomana Educational Facility in Volcano Village, Big Island Contact: Ron Hanatani, (808) 985-8530, ron@ryhpottery.com Join 11 Big Island potters and ceramicists for this annual show and sale. It is a great opportunity to meet the artists and to view their unique pottery styles all at one venue. Participating potters will include: Clayton Amemiya, TR Andrews, Jan Bovard, Birgitta Frazier, Ron Hanatani, Emily Herb, Shannon Hickey, Timothy Johnson, Chiu Leong, Jamie Stokes, and Carol Yamashita. The sale will be held at Hale Ho'omana, the education building of the Volcano Art Center, located on the Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Rd. in Volcano Village.
	18TH ANNUAL SPRING CHORAL CONCERT - WAIMEA COMMUNITY THEATRE & CHORUS Date: Saturday and Sunday, June 9th & 10th, Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 3:00 pm., 2012 Place: Kahilu Theater, Big Island Contact: (808) 885-5818 or (808) 938-3062 WAIMEA COMMUNITY CHORUS ASKS “WHAT’S IN A NAME?”. Names are in focus as Waimea Community Chorus prepares to launch its 19th Spring season which will lead up to its Annual Spring Concert, presently scheduled for June 9 & 10, 2012 at Kahilu Theatre. The show will be called “What’s in a Name?, according to director Barbara Kopra, and is a tribute to songs incorporating names into their song title. The concert will feature a great variety of musical styles and will include for example: Barbara Allen (folk music), Bill Bailey Won't You Please Come Home? (Dixieland), Sweet Baby James (1970's ballad), Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho (spiritual), Once in Love with Amy (soft shoe style), Johnny Angel (50's pop), Sherry (60's rock and roll) along with barbersop renditions of pop songs like Hello Mary Lou and show tunes like Lida Rose from The Music Man. Directed by Barbara Kopra.
	KING KAMEHAMEHA DAY CELEBRATION Date: Monday, June 11th, 8am - 4pm, 2012 Place: North Kohala, Big Island Contact: Deborah Winter, 808-889-6901, info@kamehamehadaycelebration.org Celebrate Kamehameha Day this year at the birthplace of the King himself. This year's theme is A'ohe hana nui ke alu 'ia (No task is too big when done together by all.) 8-9 a.m. Lei Draping Ceremony at Kamehameha Statue in Kapa'au 9-10 a.m. Floral Parade starting at County Base yard in Hawi, passing Kamehameha Statue in Kapa'au, rounding Kohala Hospital Loop, and ending at Kamehameha Park. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Ho'olaulea at Kamehameha Park includes food, entertainment, educational exhibits. 	VOICES FROM THE EDGE: HAWAI`I’S ANCIENT TRAILS AND THEIR MESSAGE TODAY Date: Wednesday, June 27th, 5:30pm - 7 pm, 2012 Place: West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Hwy., Kailua-Kona, Big Island Contact: Kona Historical Society, (808) 323-3222, khs@konahistorical.org What can we learn from the ancient Hawaiian trails? How do they connect us to earlier times and what are the thoughts going on today about access issues? Dr. Richard Stevens will touch upon this and more in this month’s presentation. Richard is one of the premier experts today on Hawaiian trails and has worked extensively as a “trail hunter” and researcher for the State Division of Forestry & Wildlife and the Research Corporation of the University of Hawai`i. He currently teaches classes at UH-West Hawaii when he’s not writing books and articles on trails and organic gardening. This is the June portion of a community lecture series for 2012 that spotlights local and state speakers on a wide variety of cultural and historical subjects. Presented by Kona Historical Society, in cooperation with the County of Hawai’i, this lecture series is a gift from the Society to the community that has supported it for so long. Free of charge, it is open to all, residents and visitors alike.
	THE ARTS AND TRADITIONS OF HULA AT KILAUEA Date: Saturday, June 30th, 10:30am - 11:30am, 2012 Place: Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village, Big Island Contact: (808) 967-8222, info@volcanoartcenter.org This VAC program features an outdoor Hula Kahiko Informance with kumu Leilehua Yuen and Manu Josiah. A 50-minute narrated demonstration of the preparation, protocol and offering of traditional hula and chant at the hula platform in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. This presentation takes place rain or shine at the hula platform located near VAC Gallery. Audience are encouraged to bring sitting mat and sun/rain gear. On the same day, there is a hands-on cultural demonstration from 9:30AM to 1:30PM on the gallery porch. All events are free (donations welcome); park entrance fees apply.

	BREAD BAKING AT THE PORTUGUESE STONE OVEN - KONA HISTORICAL SOCIETY Date: Every Thursday between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm & Every 2nd Tuesday of the month Place: In the pasture below Kona Historical Society headquarters in Kealakekua, Big Island Contact: Kona Historical Society, (808) 323-3222, khs@konahistorical.org The Kona Historical Society’s Portuguese Stone Oven is a reproduction of a typical oven used by the Portuguese immigrants who came to Kona in the 1880’s. Join the process of panning the dough and baking 96 loaves! The program is FREE and the bread is $7 per loaf. Bring your lunch and make a day of it with an oven-side picnic in the pasture. We hope to see you at the Portuguese Stone Oven in the pasture below KHS headquarters in Kealakekua.
