(Closed weekends/holidays) The following information applies to camping in Oahu's City and County parks. For additional information and a free copy of the camping brochure, please contact the above office or any Satellite City Hall office. (Satellite City Hall offices at Ala Moana, Windward, Hawaii Kai and Pearlridge Shopping Centers are open on Saturdays.)
COUNTY PARKS WITH CAMPSITES BELLOWS FIELD BEACH PARK 41-043 Kalanianaole Highway Waimanalo (Windward Oahu) 50 campsites located on a 3-1/2 mile-long sandy crescent beach. Comfort station, lifeguard, public phones, picnicking. Beachcombing, pole fishing, board surfing, body surfing, swimming (when waters are calm). Tent camping on weekends only (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights). Campsite can be reserved. HAUULA BEACH PARK 54-135 Kamehameha Highway Hauula (Windward Oahu) 15 campsites. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking. Diving, snorkeling, surfing (limited), swimming (when waters are calm). HOOMALUHIA BOTANICAL GARDEN 45-680 Luluku Road, Kaneohe (Windward Oahu) Note: Phone 233-7323 for camping reservations and permits. Four hundred acres of exotic plants and tropical foliage at the base of the Koolau cliffs. Special emphasis is placed on conserving plants native to Hawaii. Extensive hiking trails. Guided walks on weekends. Tent camping on weekends only (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights). Gate hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All permits must be validated at the Hoomaluhia Visitor Center. Permits are free. KAIAKA BAY BEACH PARK 66-449 Haleiwa Road Haleiwa (North Shore Oahu) 7 campsites situated in an ironwood grove on a pretty peninsula with a rocky shoreline. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking, night security. Crabbing, pole fishing, swimming, throw netting. No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campsite can be reserved. Gate hours: 7:00 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. KALAELOA BEACH (aka BARBER'S POINT BEACH PARK) Campbell's Industrial Park 91-121 Olai Street Barber's Point (Southwest Oahu) 13 campsites. A seven acre park with comfort station, picnicking, pole fishing, swimming (dangerous currents and surf from October through March). Poor swimming - the majority of the shoreline is fronted by a sharp limestone shelf fronting the park. A small sandy beach is located at the western end of the park. Camping on weekends only (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights). Campsite can be reserved. KEAAU BEACH PARK 83-431 Farrington Highway Makaha (Leeward Oahu) 25 campsites. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking. Diving, swimming (dangerous currents and surf from October through April). Rocky shoreline and ocean bottom. Sandy beach at western end of park. No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. KOKOLOLIO BEACH PARK 55-017 Kamehameha Highway Laie, HI 96762 (Windward Oahu) Tel. (808) 523-4525 for permits 5 campsites. Shady site on a long white sand beach. Comfort station, picnicking. Beachcombing, shorecasting, body surfing, swimming (dangerous currents from October through April). No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campsite can be reserved. Gate hours: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. KUALOA "B" REGIONAL PARK 49-479 Kamehameha Highway Kaneohe (Windward Shore) Tel. (808) 523-4525 for permits 30 campsites. A peninsula on the quiet waters of Kaneohe Bay. Mokolii Island (Chinaman's Hat) is offshore. The park is listed in the National Register of Historical Places because of its great importance in Hawaiian history. Comfort station, lifeguard, public phones, picnicking, night security. Diving, swimming. No camping on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campsite can be reserved. Gate hours: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. LUALUALEI BEACH PARK NO.1 86-221 Farrington Highway Waianae (Leeward Oahu) 6 campsites. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking. Diving, pole fishing, body surfing, swimming (dangerous currents and surf from October through March). The majority of the shoreline is fronted by coral reef and beach rock. No camping on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campground open in summer only. MAILI BEACH PARK 87-021 Farrington Highway Maili (Leeward Oahu) 12 campsites. Comfort stations, volleyball courts, picnic areas, parking stalls. Lifeguard service during summer months and on weekends. Diving, board surfing, swimming (dangerous currents and surf from October through March, generally calm during summer). The long sandy beach fronted by a rocky shoreline is wide in summer, erodes in winter. The coral reef has a sudden drop off (potentially dangerous for swimmers). Best swimming is in front of lifeguard tower. Camping on weekends only (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights). Campsite can be reserved. MOKULEIA BEACH PARK 68-919 Kaena Point Road Waialua (North Shore Oahu) 15 campsites. Located on one of the most isolated and uninhabited beaches on Oahu. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking. Diving, shorecasting. Unsafe swimming - dangerous currents from October through April especially when surf is big. No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. NANAKULI BEACH PARK 89-269 Kaena Point Road Nanakuli (Leeward Oahu) 12 campsites. Comfort station, lifeguard, public phones, picnicking, and night security. Diving, snorkeling, swimming (generally safe in summer when sea is calm - dangerous at other times). No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campsite can be reserved. SWANZY BEACH PARK 51-369 Kamehameha Highway Kaaawa (Windward Oahu) Tel. (808) 523-4525 for permits 9 campsites. A 5-acre site on the windward coast. Comfort station, public phones, picnicking. Diving, snorkeling, swimming when sea is calm. Park lacks a good sand beach and is generally not appealing to swimmers. Fishermen frequent shallow offshore waters. Camping allowed on weekends only (Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights). Campsite can be reserved. WAIMANALO BAY RECREATION AREA 41-043 Aloiloi Street Waimanalo (Windward Oahu) 10 campsites. An ironwood forest on one of Oahu's finest beaches. Comfort station, lifeguard, public phones, picnicking and night security. Board surfing, body surfing, and swimming. No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. Campsite can be reserved. Gate hours: 7:00 a.m. - 7:45 p.m. WAIMANALO BEACH PARK 41-741 Kalanianaole Highway Waimanalo (Windward Oahu) 22 campsites on 38 acres. Popular with local residents. Comfort station, lifeguard, public phones, picnicking. Snorkeling and swimming. Beachfront is wide and sandy. No camping Wednesday and Thursday nights. |
