Accommodations
Kauai

• Campgrounds are open 7 days per week, all year.
• Tent camping is allowed. (Self-contained mobile campers are not allowed.) Cabins are only available at Kokee State Park through concessionaire Kokee Lodge (see below). Cabins are not available at other state parks on Kauai.
• Permits are required for camping. Applicants must be age 18 or older. Adult I.D. is required (driver's licence, social security, passport, etc.). Permits are not required for Kokee Lodge cabins.
• Permit applications may be made in writing, by phone, or in person, and must be received at least 7 days before the camping event. Permits are issued up to 1 year in advance. The Application for a State Parks Permit is available in PDF format on the Hawaii State Parks website.
• Maximum length of stay at any one park is 5 consecutive nights (shorter periods apply at certain parks - see below). A 30-day time period must elapse before a new permit will be issued to the same adult for the same park.
• Permits for campsites are allocated on a first come/first served space available basis. (The majority of permits for camping during summer months at Kalalau in the Na Pali Coast State Park are issued one year in advance.)
• Tent camping is $5.00 per campsite per night except for Na Pali Coast State Park which is $10.00 per person per night. (See below for cost of Kokee Lodge cabins.)
• Once the permit and reservation dates requested are tentatively approved, the full payment for camping fees is required within 2 weeks to confirm a reservation. Note: If the date of reservation is within 30 days, the payment is due immediately. (Contact the above office for payment and refund policy.)

• Hanakapiai: an overnight stopover 2 miles (one-way) along the Kalalau Trail. Primitive tent camping only. No drinking water (all water must be treated). Camping is permitted for one night only. Day use permits are required beyond Hanakapiai - inquire at above district office.
• Hanakoa: 6.5 miles along the Kalalau Trail. Temporarily closed (check with above district office).
• Kalalau: located at the end of the 11 mile Kalalau Trail. A primitive campsite just behind the beach. No drinking water - stream water is available but must be treated. Self-composting toilets. Maximum stay at Kalalau is 5 consecutive nights.
